Tshwane Place of Safety Association focuses on the importance of the family unit &
family life
.

At
TPOSA we focus on the needs of newborn babies and young children up to age 6 years. Sadly, we are living in a society where more and more young children are forced to survive on their own - many thousands of whom are living on the streets - where they fall prey to injustice and abuse. There is an alarming increase in the abandonment of newborn babies and the children that find their way into our Place of Safety homes were either abandoned, signed off for adoption at birth or removed from their family home due to gross neglect or insufficient care.

The association consists of a network of volunteer families who are screened, trained and registered with us. Without our network of
Place of Safety parents, our organisation could not exist. They are not only care givers, but have become experts on a variety of topics relating to newborn babies and toddlers. These are individuals who commit their time and love to the care of a little one, or in some case up to six little ones, until such time as the legal arrangements surrounding the baby's future is determined by the State and they are able to move on to their 'forever home'.

Our parents must be well versed on a variety of issues ranging from health and emotional security to developmental milestones. Children in our care are babies and toddlers in crisis, i.e. abandoned, abused or orphaned children that may have special needs or be HIV+. The most
crucial ingredient in their volunteer service, however, is the love and patience they give in order to stabilize a child in distress, to heal a sick child or to simply put a smile on the face of an abandoned baby.
